Jo Anne Warren Lewis (1934-2024)

It is with much sadness that we inform you that longtime Navy League member Jo Anne Lewis passed away on June 30th, 2024, with her family at her side. Jo Anne and her husband Oren, who passed away in 2014, were great supporters of the Navy League. They will be sorely missed. The Facebook post by Jo Anne’s daughter is here:

Her funeral will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Church By The Sea, 2700 Mayan Dr., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316. A reception will follow. 

In lieu of flowers, JoAnne wished for donations to be made to the Ft. Lauderdale Sea Cadets, a group that helps young people develop strong character and leadership skills. Donations can be made at https://ftlseacadets.org 

Joann Heather Black (1934-2024)

It is with much sadness that we inform you that Joann Black, longtime Council member and wife of Admiral Jim Black, passed away at home on February 26th . Jim and family members were by her side. Our hearts go out to Jim and family at this difficult time. Please keep Joann, Jim and their family in your prayers. 

There will be a Memorial service held at Christ Lutheran Church, Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, March 23, 2024. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cancer Society or Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society in Joann’s memory.

Rudolph Oetting (1936-2023)

It is with deep sadness we regret to inform you of the passing of our friend, former Marine and Fort Lauderdale Council President, Rudy Oetting. Rudy passed away peacefully at home, with wife Louise by his side, on December 3rd, after a long illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
