About the Navy League of the United States

Our Mission

The Navy League of the United States, founded in 1902 with the support of President Theodore Roosevelt, is a nonprofit civilian, educational and advocacy organization that supports America’s sea services: the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine.

For over a century, the Navy League has been a voice for maritime strength, engaging the public and Congress on the vital role these services play in national security, economic prosperity, and global stability. Through membership, we unite those who are committed to supporting the sea services, advocating for a strong maritime defense, and building a community that stands behind those who serve at sea.

As part if its mission focus, the Navy League of the United States:

  • Enhances the morale of the sea service personnel and their families through national and council level programs.
  •  Is a powerful voice to educate the public and Congress of the importance to our nation’s defense, well-being and economic prosperity.
  •  Supports youth through programs that expose young people to the values of our sea services.

Center for Maritime Strategy

The Center for Maritime Strategy (CMS) is a non-profit, non-partisan think tank and research institution dedicated to studying maritime issues and their context within wider American national security policy. Through its research and analysis, external outreach, publications, and high-level events, CMS engages key stakeholders across government, academia, and industry.

Our mission is to strengthen American national security through its sea services, conducting policy-driven research, advocacy, and education on the relationship between maritime power and national security policy.
