I want to thank all the members of the Fort Lauderdale Council for your continued support throughout the year and especially during this pandemic. All our remaining dinner meetings this year have been canceled due to COVID-19. I pray that everyone stays safe and continues to do their part in social distancing. We look forward to seeing you in September when we hope to start out our 2020-2021 dinner meetings. I want to send thanks to everyone on the front lines during this crisis, including all the military deployed on the USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy. USNS Comfort (T-AH-20) is a Mercy-class hospital ship of the United States Navy. Comfort’s duties include providing emergency, on-site care for the U.S. combatant forces deployed in war or other operations but now it is in New York City supporting local citizens. Operated by the Military Sealift Command, Comfort provides rapid, flexible, and mobile medical and surgical services that will help the New York City Area. Before arriving in New York City, the ship was undergoing maintenance in Norfolk, Virginia, which the Pentagon originally estimated would take weeks to complete. But the Navy, working with the Army Corps of Engineers and the State Department, got the job done in eight days. I also want to thank all the Doctors, Nurses, Police, and Firefighters working on the front lines. Let’s not forget the truck drivers delivering food and all the food store workers as well. At the end of the day, we all need each other every day for this world to be great. I would like to update you all on the new building project. We are hoping to break ground this summer on the Mary N. Porter Sea Cadet Training Center. We need your support! If either you or your company is interested in naming opportunities, please contact anyone on the board or look for the flyer in this newsletter. We are always looking for more volunteers to help with all events during the year. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact anyone on the board. Thank you for your support and all that you do for the Sea Services!
Wishing you strength for today and hope for tomorrow!
